Meet the Artist

What began as simple doodles in my school notebooks evolved into a lifelong passion the moment I discovered the art of henna. That instant connection sparked a journey of countless hours of practice and artistic development, eventually allowing my business to blossom. Seeking a name that would bridge this tradition with my own identity, I turned to my Kumu Hula, who gifted me the name He Nani. Inspired by my name, Kanani, which means 'the beauty,' it reflects the inner beauty I strive to bring out in every design.

What I love most about this work is the opportunity it gives me to meet new people; for me, henna is a shared creation and a chance to listen to the unique, intimate stories of those I meet. This love for storytelling has pushed my creativity beyond temporary body art, leading me to explore this style on diverse canvases, including large-scale murals, custom products, and fine art paintings. While my roots remain in the islands where my business began, I have carried the spirit of He Nani to the Bay Area, where I currently reside in Menlo Park. I feel so fortunate to now share my artisanship across this new landscape, connecting with a diverse community through private sessions, creative collaborations, and special events.

Henna became more than a practice-it became a way to honor my roots, share stories, and create connection.

Now, I bring that same spirit to the Bay Area through personalized sessions, murals, and meaningful art.
